Deathless
Re: Deathless
I'm assuming AFI set their criteria that way because most of them ARE giant stans of classic Hollywood. But I imagine they justified it by saying they were looking for "stars" with an established body of work and a legacy that has stood the test of time. There's nothing Elizabeth Taylor was going to do in her waning years that would negate her "star" legacy, but what if they picked some multiple Oscar winner in their late forties, and then that person has a late life conversion and becomes a born-again right wing extremist who only makes shitty religious propaganda films for the next two decades? Or imagine Cosby had been more actor than comedian and then one of their choices turns out or be a serial rapist? Nobody on this list is perfect, but I think reputation and character plays a role in selection as well. Nothing too egregious.
Any time the solution is "banjo rifle", I'm in 100%.
Re: Deathless
Lol, unimaginable! Like the guy who sold us pudding pops for all those years is some kind of monster. Next you'll be telling us Max actually is "Mad" or something. Haha good one.

Re: Deathless
Watched some of Adam's Rib tonight -- Spencer Tracy was often paired with his amore Katherine Hepburn, but Hepburn always outshines him, as she was one of the great greats. But this watch I enjoyed a bit of his acting work, he holds his own, and he really gets quiet grumpiness down, aka I see a lot of me in him.

The tree is fun. So is making mount Fuji the lowest and smallest hill! Like the guy on the horizon but everything else in the foreground is a bit forgetable.

Re: Deathless
Are we going to have multiple Jokers and multiple Jack Nicholson villains?
Because this might be his number three best or ... Edited to add... by my account he has at least half a dozen and maybe seven or eight villains that are better than his joker!!!! And he's definitely not the best Joker? What?
This list has self-destructed.

Re: Deathless
I completely agree. I've actually never understood the love for Nicholson's Joker. Tim Burton's Joker was over-the-top cartoonish, and was amazingly over-acted. But it fell short for me, even at the time, because i couldn't ever NOT know that I was watching Jack Nicholson in Cesar Romero's makeup.Phoebe wrote: ↑Mon Feb 21, 2022 1:57 pm Are we going to have multiple Jokers and multiple Jack Nicholson villains?

Re: Deathless
I rewatched the original about a year ago. Nicholson's Joker is brilliant. It's truly an amazing performance. It's also my favorite Joker. Heath Ledger was also amazing. But Nicholson's Joker is the best one.Mike wrote: ↑Mon Feb 21, 2022 2:16 pmI completely agree. I've actually never understood the love for Nicholson's Joker. Re: Deathless
Again, this list is from June 2003, so I'm guessing it's going to miss a lot of Batman remakes and pretty much all of the Marvel Universe stuff. This will be the only Joker in the list, but it's not the only Nicholson in the list.

Re: Deathless
"Deathless" is a word Morrissey puts in like every song.
Tell the Queen I'm deathless, deathless,
and ruthless with a tie and a unwrapped lettuce head
Tell my mum I'm deathless, hopeless,
Keep a million skinny white lads buttered on the ground,
smothered in the Union Jack like my flat mate Tim
oh how I can't stand him
but not as much as
no not as much as her
