On the other thread we were talking about Robert Mitchum and my first encounters with his acting were unpleasant or threatening characters, and that aura carried over to Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison, where he plays a hero instead, but still a complicated enough hero, and in inherently threatening situations, that you might worry about whether he really turns out to be good? Anyway, he's a fun actor to watch in general, kind of like De Niro.

I have just had an insight like a lightning bolt from the blue at this late age and stage of life:
I could never understand why my parents were so confused about who was who in The Godfather movies. I thought Robert de Niro was really good looking when I was younger and so I kept trying to figure out which character he was playing in The Godfather movies, because I wasn't old enough to have seen all of them and understood what was going on. They kept showing me Marlon Brando and acting like this was the character I was talking about, and I was so confused and repulsed - like NO, that is definitely not the guy! But they were like yes, 100%, that's who played Vito Corleone! I believe they consulted other people for confirmation so I was just lost. I remember thinking, how on Earth did Robert de Niro come into this thing? Did I just imagine him there? No! There's a good looking version of Vito Corleone, so where is he in this movie? They absolutely knew what they were doing because they knew that I thought Robert de Niro was good looking and that I didn't understand the difference, and it was all so very amusing to them. It's like when people give their children another word to use instead of "mouthwash" and then the child is 27 and discovers their friends don't call that stuff vodka.

Tried to figure out why 9000. It's probably not a software version, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_versioning numbers like that back then were more associated with hardware versions, ala Atari 2600, or the UNIVAC 1101. My guess is it's the 9th series of Hal? Sorta like a 9.0 -- which would explain both the power and the bugs.
