I've become a big fan of this song over the last month! Robbins also did "Big Iron" which is also awesome -- 2/2 on loving songs by Marty Robbins but his unappealingly right-wing attitudes keep me from deep diving.
"My love is stronger than my fear of death" is a perfect line that unites the two parts of this song, and should be stolen by screenwriters who have characters do completely irrational things. Because, my goodness this guy is acting very irrational in this story, but it's still so good.

Agreed. Has a good tempo and sounds different than most rock songs of the era -- but kept it off my 1959 tourney for its uh cultural appropriation? But not as racist, at least lyrically, the characters aren't treating as stereotypes as say Hank Williams' Kaw Liga.

For some reason they play this song on the radio here all the time. Like, I hear it frequently! That seems weird.

First time I heard Cathy's Clown and made the connection that this sounds a lot like Era 1 Beatles. Those harmonies!
He'll Have to Go Is a weird one. He is involved in a love triangle and his big plan is to woo her while she's home with the other guy by calling her on the phone from a bar.
