85. Like I Love Country Music (Kane Brown)

This is a good ode to classic country -- didn't realize how much country songs are like old school hip hop. Just full of lists and references. Alan Jackson, Johnny and June, Brooks and Dunn, if you know than you know, right? If I knew more I bet I'd love this. 8/10

-6 Billion maybe.

And, to Phoebe. Doesn't matter if it was in Rudolph. This song can die in fire and I will watch it burn. I hate it with the passion of a million suns of varying sizes.

84. Puffin On Zootiez (Future)

Like his flow and I'm 50/50 on the mood, depends on my mood whether I like these downer atmospheric hip hop songs that don't change, sometimes feels like it's on autopilot 15 seconds on. No idea what he's singing, like a foreign language at this point, it's not you it's me. 7/10

83. What Happened To Virgil (Lil Durk Featuring Gunna)

Like the bed here. Rapping pretty good too. Though the video has odes too the fashion designer, the lyrics often seem completely unrelated -- if there's any through-line, it's keep on keepin on. But would say the two rappers sound almost identical to me, like having two scoops of vanillla. But sad their friend is gone. 7/10

Update: Y'all not responding is not going to keep me from making progress on this list

82. Take My Name (Parmalee)

By the numbers and written for the express purpose to be played at weddings. And patriarchal no less. He's not asking he's telling. Take my name. You're now Jenny Parmalee. Now am I hypocritical in that both the singer/songwriters' last name might be the same as mine, and that my wife took my last name. Nah! Rule of thumb, no one changes their name unless they want to, sorry song, but if undecided, if there's a chance to get a last name upgrade, take it! 4/10

81. Broadway Girls (Lil Durk Featuring Morgan Wallen)

If you are connected to Morgan's anger here, be careful, hopefully you handle it better than him. Ugh, yeah, it's women that are terrible, right guys? So much to dislike. Don't dismiss rap country though, it still might be our future. 3/10

80. Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree (Brenda Lee)

One of the best holiday songs, and one of the best songs of the 50s era and of the early Nashville sound, just everything in it is done preordained, don't change a thing. Tight but loose, if that makes any sense. Not one note wrong. Even just the last four seconds, the simple yet mind-blowing interplay between the sax and the guitar, it unbeatable. 10/10

Throwback country rock, in the style of Clapton or Raitt in the 90s. Clean adult radio blues. Pretty good, like the lyrical conceit, but I don't return to it. 7/10

My parents live across the street, and they report that they can no longer see Kyle's distended, elephantine scrotum through his front window. So possibly he is better, or else has just moved to his sick room. I asked them to go check on him, but they refuse, because they claim Kyle is so mean to them when they "meddle in his business."

76. All Too Well (10 Minute Taylor's Version) (Taylor Swift)

The best Taylor Swift song? Not top of the top for me, but maybe her at her creative peak. Love confessional lyrics, storytelling, and epic songs. I wrote a few songs like this, not nearly as good, but they were fun to make. Kinda wish I didn't know what hollywood actor this was about, kinda makes it a tiny less relatable. But is that her fault? Yes. But more 10 minute epics from TS, por favor. 9/10

Turns out Kyle got sicker for a while, but says that his second antibiotics finally kicked in and he is on the mend. His fever broke and he says he's at about 80% now.

I'll ask about the balls.

I'm alive! After getting much worse, my second antibiotic did the trick. My fever broke yesterday and my cough is now almost completely gone. My body had me sleeping 18-20 hours a day, but I'm feeling a ton better today. I'm still going to take it easy and get lots of sleep, but I've finally turned the corner.

72. Oh My God (Adele)

Love the occasional Adele dance bangers, and this is one of her best. People have noted how Adele is starting to move into more hip-hop oriented sounds and I don't think people should be shocked. There's retro soul, which she is great at, but it's not that far to hip hop soul. Anyways, the song is fun, about having fun, sung fun, produced in a fun way, yes please. 9/10

Country song sounds like we should relate to what he's talking about, but he's imagining what life would be like if he wasn't famous? And his answer is "I'd still be cool." Presumptuous. Performative. Still a bit good. 7/10

Yeah- listen, y'all. I had some scary moments. But here's the thing- don't be mad at Gerald. We all process trauma in different ways and I don't think it's fair to play a game of "Should Ofs" with him. We'll be fine. He'll come back to the fold soon enough.
