I don't know if it's the fact that I've been posting these annual top song videos, but I've begun seeing ads/stories on some websites for an album series "NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL DAD ROCK."

Anyways, here's 1994 #13:

Like this song, like the movie it's from. Our oldest child's dead name, Moira, came from the one actress in that movie, although we were first introduced to the name from seeing her in a different movie. Plenty of people misspelled it as Moria, which I always enjoyed from a Tolkien-fan perspective. That started the pattern of giving our kids a first name that was Irish, which the oldest continued when he came out as transgender and picked an obscure, difficult-to-spell Irish first name: Faelan.

This is the music millenials listened to as young teenagers - formative musics, if you will.

I bought my first CD stereo when I was 13. The guy at the store wanted to show me how good it was and he put on a Toni Braxton CD and turned it up really loud. It may have been this song. I was thinking, what, I'm going to play sad sack rock music quietly in my room while I mope and angst, not blasting happy baby making music so the neighbors can hear. I'm not calling attention to myself then, or now for that matter. Anyways, I think his playing had much more to do with the quality of the production values here, which I admit is pretty great.

Late-stage Elton never appealed to me. It seems too orchestrated. Less energy. Less fun.

One of the classics of my teen years. One of my favorite gangsta rap songs, maybe partially because it's such a party song that it's easy to pretend he's not talking serious stuff.

And the video!

Good cover. So amusing that these were all bigger hits than anything by Nirvana.

I'll give props for keeping in the squeaks that are made when you slide your fingers on a guitar. Some people hate it, think it's unprofessional, but I love it.

Classic.

Not sure what #30 is going to be but I'm sure it's not the song I most associate with 1994

I thought we were finishing up so I thought I'd check out Acclaimed Music's list of best of 1994 and see if there were any matches,

22. Regulate
46. Stay

And on Rate Your Music
24. Regulate

Some I'm surprised isn't on this list but there's one artist in particular that has a few HUGE hits from '94 that are nowhere to be found. But they may appear in '95 so I'll wait to reveal the names until if/when they they showup.

Hey! Some call this dismissively "post grunge," (jeepers it was recorded just a year after grunge hit the mainstream) probably because it's not self-loathing, but when it came out it was just another flavor of grunge. Sludgy guitars and flannel. Counting it.

We did it!

Your sure that Michael Bolton isn’t the godfather of grunge?
