Completely forgot this little dance anthem existed. Not great, but fun.

An honorable mention for 1992, coming in at #32, before we move on to 1993:

1993 has impeccable taste! 1 for 1!

It's 1993 and sax solos are still happening.

One of the greatest love songs of all time. And as much as I love Dolly- Whitney's rendition is so amazing and some of the most iconic singing in recent times.

Y'all- I just watched the video again. And, while the Costner-heavy video ages weirdly, her singing is so goddamn on point. When she hits that moment (you know it) I got goosebumps. I mean, that's such a good performance.

That was peak Whitney. Pure confidence. 100% in control of her instrument. The a capella opening took me to church for a moment. And "that moment" Kyle mentioned is the single most iconic phrase she uttered in her career, and to see her maintain that power level without overdoing it all the way to the end until the last couple quiet lines was just stunning.
Any time the solution is "banjo rifle", I'm in 100%.

I never cared for Sisters With Voices and always thought of them as weak imitators of En Vogue. Relistening to this hasn’t changed my mind.

I only recognize about half of these songs. At this point in time, I was married and living in the Seattle area, working full time, and didn't listen to much new music.

I got something. Maybe her best use of the whistle register. Used in the intro, instead of as the climax (gets it out of the way, like the best Hitchcock cameos), then used along with the chorus melody. I really like this, it holds up very well.

Alright, 1993, getting some Doo Wop in there! And some Gangsta Rap show up too, though still no grunge. The story of music as told by this list interesting for what it gets right and what it misses...

So far all but two are by black artists, and the remaining two are Snow and UB40, but often accused of appropriating black music.
