Was delayed almost 2 hours leaving San Fran last night, thanks to a flight attendant calling in sick and them needing to wait for a replacement to arrive on another plane. But thankfully had a 3 hour layover in Detroit this morning, so was still able to make my connecting flight in plenty of time and actually arrived home early. However, a lady in the row behind on the flight from San Fran was asked to leave the plane. She brought a small pug dog onto the plane in a gym bag-like carrier that had no mesh for the animal to breath through, and only unzipped the bag to let the animal poke its head out once she was seated and had it under the seat in front of her, so they thought at first she was trying to sneak the animal onto the plane without paying the fee for having an animal. She said she did pay the fee and had the animal ticket (I don't know that she ever showed it to them), but was getting chippy with the gate agents and flight attendants, so they asked her to deboard the plane. The whole time she was recording them on her phone and saying she was complaining about the airline on Twitter, blah, blah, blah. Thankfully, she got off the plane fairly quickly and without them having to force her, because after the almost 2 hour delay all the other passengers just wanted to get moving.

She is a monster, without being a myth, which is rather unfair.

But did you get to keep the dog?

She took the dog with her. While I would love to have a dog, I'd prefer to do some empty nester traveling first without worrying about having to board the pet.

Now chaperoning my seventh post-prom party.

I know our area isn't unique but for those who may be unfamiliar... As an answer to teen drinking (and driving) at after prom parties, we have the official post-prom. Fund-raisers provide the money, and there's a huge event at the YMCA. There's prizes (including cash) for every kid that attends, there's a breathalyzer at the door so no one pre-games the event, and students aren't allowed to leave until 3am. Attendance is always near 100%. As a result, the worst tragedy on a prom night was 10 years ago when a small foot bridge collapsed under the weight of a photo-op, and 8 couples were dumped in the creek in full formal wear. No one was hurt.

Anyway, activities had just started tonight when the breathalyzer equipment finally showed up. All the kids were called to line up. About 20 football players were playing flag football and chose to play just a little longer. So there's already maybe 40 or 50 kids in line when the football players roll up. Without any discussion, the football players all crowd up to the front of the line and just fold in, cutting in front of everyone else. No one says a word about it (including me). It's the principal and vice-principal running the line, and the principal is also the head football coach. The are both really nice guys. I know about half the football players and they are generally all really good kids, and yet... this is the sort of privilege that is just par for the course. It's as if no one even notices that it's unfair.

Feels like this could be a metaphor for something larger, but I'm too tired to imagine what.

What really sucks is that the football players had to take the breath tests in the first place. That shit's for poindexters! NERD!

I am sick to death of cleverness. Everybody is clever nowadays. You can’t go anywhere without meeting clever people. The thing has become an absolute public nuisance.
