Well played Tahlvin! Weeks of posting to set up this Rickroll.

1988 is now 5 for 5! I know Rick rolling has ruined that song, but I loved it a lot when it came out.

I like every GoGos song more than this but it's good. Kinda funny how going pop in the 80s was... singing behind a rock band.

Blue eyed soul is the rare genre that gets dismissed in its name, sorta like yacht rock, but like all music, some of it is fantastic, and bravo for here embracing the culture that some may say gets appropriated (directed by David Fincher). There's a thin line, and this is on the right side of it, IMO. I'm all for melting pot music that acknowledges and supports its roots. Good stuff.

Speaking of, here's maybe the apex of the genre! A titan. After this song goes to #1, not another white male hits the top of the R&B charts until Robin Thicke a generation later. Reading up, seems the criticism of blue-eyed soul is majority economic related, and less artistic related. And for that, I totally agree. It's how I feel about Elvis, The Rolling Stones, et al.

I'm sending a pattern.

1-5... AWESOME.
6-10... Bleah.
11 and 12, so far AWESOME.

Based on this vanishingly small sample size, I can confidently state that awesome and bleah will alternate through 1988 in blocks of 5.

I have never heard (of) some of these in my life despite being a teenager then. It's amusing to pinpoint the exact dates when mainstream music disappeared completely from life and memory. Steve Winwood to me is Blind Faith, Traffic, Spencer Davis, or he's a mid 90s solo revival. Where is Metallica and Motley Crue? Where is Public Enemy? I'm lost.

Sure, America, buy like the only Gloria hit that wasn't a percussive symphony. Even still, in a ballad, percussively, love to hear it!

I could see Mike going either way on this one. It's good but not a fav, but wonder if it's because we heard two ballads in a row.

I've never been a Cheap Trick fan, but I also don't hate it. Billy Ocean is great. Nostalgia is just jumpin with this one. My theory is fraying around the edges, but we'll see what 16 brings.

Guy really unsure about what love is, but does know that a ballad requires a double neck bass guitar, as only the best know...

honestly, how does double bass guitar works?

Re: Deathless

by Eliahad
A couple different ways. Sometimes one neck is a guitar and the other is a bass. Also, the pick-ups for each set of string have different outputs so they can run each neck through a different effects board. It's an easy way for them to switch instruments without having to go through the hassle of picking one up and putting one down.

My back is much better! Thanks for asking! It's still extremely stiff- mostly in the morning when I first wake up. But it gets better throughout the day if I stay seated or standing. I'm trying to get up and just walk around every 15 minutes because when I stay sedentary, I can feel it wanting to clench back up on me.

Today will be my first day without muscle relaxers and just ibuprofen. And I have to say it's going pretty well!
