My grandparents told me all about life during the depression and that's how it was. The whole generation was hard as ****. They didn't even have refrigerators.

It's not okay to destroy the climate by running your car with the seat warmer and the windows down so you can smoke in comfort when it's cold outside. That is my word on the topic.

How did you know the seat warmer was on? The mystery continues :-)

Yesterday I was in my car for a half hour, parked, waiting for my son to come out of tumbling class. Turned off the car, unrolled all the windows, and read a book. At one point about 500 geese flew above me and it was majestic. The truck parked next to me had its windows up and car running the whole time.

It is a great pleasure to see birds! The older I get, the more I care about things like available birds, the weather of the day, what vegetables look like today, etc. I am not a smoker. But if I were a smoker, I already spend vast quantities of time standing around outdoors, so I imagine that is how I would do my smoking. But when you are a non-smoker, I don't think you can truly understand what it's like to be a smoker, in much the same way that people often lack an essential bit of personal experience required to understand something. If you don't understand why it would be desirable, for example, to shovel snow with a cigarette hanging out of your mouth in 10 below weather, or tolerate 110° heat for an indefinite period to enjoy another cigarette or whatever it is that you smoke, then you and I probably just don't know what it's all about. Various relatives of mine, and I, have joked about wanting to take up smoking if they knew they were going to die within a short period of time, such that the lung cancer couldn't hurt them etc. They could just enjoy the smoking without the most serious bad effects. However, if you haven't enjoyed life as a smoker, it's hard to imagine where the enjoyment enters the picture at all. My kids have helpfully informed me about the details of third hand smoke so certainly that's not something that would even cross my mind to take up anew at this age.

The American film institute is not doing itself any favors with these lists, because who would go there after this?? Like would you pay them money to teach you something??

100 Years 100 Songs is a bit of a poor name for what's really being judged here, as often -- Lose Yourself not included -- it's not the song it's the performance in the film. Old Time Rock n Roll isn't a masterpiece, but Tom Cruise shaking his butt is. Singing in the Rain has two on this list, and they both wouldn't be famous if not for the bravura performances, the greatest dance routines in film history.

Racking up the Bob Hope hits. In this case, ok maybe it's the song because that wasn't the most impressive performance, pretending to play a concertina, pretending to ride a wagon, while his wife pretends to sleep.

One of the only villagescapes, a nice perspective of rows of boats and buildings from a bridge packed with people and stuff. Second guessing myself, maybe this was too high. I enjoy looking at it, but I dunno if anything, maybe the temples, are exactly memorable.
