New Game?
I realize that this is probably a hopeless idea but I can't help but feel quixotic this week. I'm in a regular gaming group but I miss pbp games. I would like to start a new game that is GMless and ruleless - just interactive fiction. I think we're all mature enough to play nice without a boss. If s...

Yea, they are often boring. It's all "Here comes the super scary thing!" page after page and then it's something a bit odd but not particularly scary. I think part of the problem is that the world has moved past him in the last century. Existentialism and accepting that the universe is cha...
Re: I voted
Ah shit. I gotta say that the heads of the democratic party have the worst communication skills possible to be near the top of a major country, and Biden's administration was bad even for that group. They let lies stand uncontested and rarely address complaints. Trump has been a weak and vulnerable ...

Voted today, only 35 minute wait which is better than it has been all week. Living in a heavily democratic area in a republican states means too few voting locations.

Israel has proven it's willing to kill 10 innocent people to kill 1 terrorist. I'm semi-convinced that they look for an excuse to attack Gaza and Lebanon every decade or so to destroy most of their infrastructure. Much like the devastation in Yemen, this is partly about the rivalry between Saudi Ara...

Yep. Maybe it comes down to all the amount of stuff you're expected to know to enjoy the current thing. If that other stuff isn't that great, then it's like homework. Provenance, by Anne Leckie Read this book. And Leckie’s Imperial Radch trilogy. She’s superb. I've read all her novels. She's the best at intertwining the personal and the epic. Garlic butter is too runny to be a good dipping sauce. Unless you like grease stains on your shirt. Mayo is just fatty paste. I bet the people who like it were the kids who ate paste. Ketchup is alright but you can kick it up a notch by using most of the same ingredients and going with Barbeque sauc...

Typically when your population starts to age, a bulge of elderly workers start hitting the age where they can't work at the same time. If there aren't enough people in the younger generations to: (1) care for them; and (2) replace their labor-- then you run into real problems with worker shortages....

Why is a slow population growth a bad thing? All the arguments I've heard that it's bad are about a human constructed system of physical or digital pieces of paper that we have given weight and turned into a method to trade for goods and services. Is it actually a bad thing? I'm probably at the sam...

For me, very much so. Some narrators are competent but nothing special. Some are amazing, with a different voice for every character and with pacing and intonation that bring out the drama and humor. For people who don't have a ton of board game experience, I'd avoid game with lots of parts that have a long set up time. Taking half an hour to set up and then four hours to play can be a bit much. I'm in the same camp that I hate loss of control. When I drink, it's rarely more than one drink; I can't remember the last time it was more than 2. I also would never smoke anything because of asthma. So, maybe a semi-annual or quarterly nibble of edibles would be my limit.
