Some guns, but my own guess is that they are stocking up on ammo. At least here in rural Nebraska, everyone who wants a gun already owns fourteen, but every time there's a presidential election everyone here complains that there's no ammo to be found anywhere. Just guessing though. My own stockpile ...

Re: Calling Out the Cowards
Technically, all it has to do is pass the house, and he has been impeached. The Senate trial determines if he is to be convicted/punished. The Senate cannot act fast enough to remove him, so fine, let it move at a more deliberate pace and on Schumer's terms. It would be lovely to bar him from holdin...

Re: [Puzzler] Robin & Marian
Other way of viewing. Number of shots is a sequence, and only that sequence would get that exact correct ordering. Thats 1 over n! for that ordering, then you sum it up. Getting the equation in the picture you posted. Oh damn... that would have been way simpler than all the probability trees I was ...

Re: [Puzzler] Robin & Marian
I also came up with the answer e. If two arrows both hit the target at completely random points, then it makes sense that they both have an equal likelihood of being closest to the center. So the second shot has a 50% chance of being farther away. So half of all attempts will end with a score of 2. ...

Re: [Puzzler] Squaring Square Squares
But I suppose you could just cut everything at once, which is another question. You have to cut everything at once. Only the finished product matters. Otherwise you can't cut anything at all. Cutting a big square into four smaller squares requires first cutting it into two rectangles, and then cutt...

To be fair, the answers won't be up til next week, so I'm not sure that my answer is right, but it's so elegant that I feel like it has to be... Like the odd scoring system is specifically to produce this result. If you want my assumption: I assumed that at any point, you will have X arrows. The cha...

I don't know. It could have been better, but I just had to read it a couple times to sort it out. I think you locked in on the example and got some tunnel-vision. Happens to me all the time. Re: [Puzzler] Squaring Square Squares
I'm saying that if you have nine squares in a 3x3 grid, then you could combine 4 of them into a larger square, leaving you with 6. So you had 9, but combining allowed you to subtract 3.

Re: Calling Out the Cowards
I am so glad that so many people and organizations are saying the right things NOW, but I'm achingly disappointed that it required an actual invasion of our halls of government with violence and death to get them to this point. Not only did we tell you so, but we've BEEN telling you so. The FBI and ...

(Copied from 538. This is the one I got really excited about. I rarely solve their "hard" puzzle, but I got this one, and the final answer just tickled the crap out of me when I realized what it was.) Robin of Foxley has entered the FiveThirtyEight archery tournament. Her aim is excellent...

Re: [Puzzler] Squaring Square Squares
I know you've already figured out what it means, but to clarify for others: You have a square. You are subdividing the square by drawing lines inside of it. When you are done drawing lines, the original square will be subdivided into some number of smaller squares. These squares will fill the entire...

I have an answer, and I'm sure it's right, but I haven't conclusively proved that the numbers I name are impossible. I've proven that all the other numbers ARE possible, and I instinctively know that the remaining ones aren't. And yeah, 2 and 3 are on my list of impossible numbers. There aren't many...

[Puzzler] Squaring Square Squares
(Stolen from 538's Puzzler series) There are many ways to slice a big square into smaller squares (not necessarily of equal size), so that the smaller squares donβt overlap, while still making up the entire area of the big square. For example, you can slice the big square into four smaller squares,...

Re: Trump
Trump is committing to a peaceful, orderly transition to a new administration in less than two weeks. He is scared.
Of course he notably did not actually admit that he lost or that anyone else won, and he wouldn't say Biden"s name...
But he's running out of allies and cards to play.
