So, what's up with all the Russian members? Do they follow a pattern of some sort or just typical spambots? Maybe RPGs are big there now, lol.

Spambots.
Any of them that post to the boards I delete as soon as I see them. The rest pile up until I have 10 or 15, and then I get that all at once. Easier that way, so I can collect all the IPs for the ban list.

I notice it whenever I get emails saying someone has posted in Game 1, 2, or 3 of Two Link Trivia. Should ban anyone who posts on any of those
It's a trap!

I've often wondered if I've wound up deleting a legitimate listener in my enthusiasm for house-cleaning.

If you didn't have those misgivings then you should not have tha kind of power
. Somehow I knew that you were that kind of person...and those are few and far between.
I am sure you're good, Mike. I was just having fun with you. I would count myself fortunate to be deleted accidentally by a kind soul like yourself.
....then I would cry my eyes out at the injustice in the world as I listened to Morrissey.

Can we counter-spam? Is that even a thing?
In Russia, Nerd Pride spams you.

When I get to the Web Services section of the coding book I'm reading, I'll see if I can create a web service that will read posts from new users, and if they are using Cyrillic, it will automatically delete that user and their posts, add the originating IP address to the banned list, and launch a DDoS attack against that IP address.

I will volunteer my coffee maker; it has very little to do some days.

...meanwhile back at NPR HQ there has been a dearth of Cental Asian NPR listeners for a period of seven months. In other unrelated news, Mike Jones has been "selected" by the president himself to house an international exchange student from the Commonwealth of Independent States. The student's "talents" are computer information, computer networking, Krav Maga, and torture.

Wow, this morning's round of spam posts was explicit! Many more of those types of posts, and I'll have to stop reading the boards when onsite in order to avoid problems.

I don't have a problem with you guys always saying good morning to each other at the crack of dawn. I guess that's explicit in a way, but inoffensive.

See, here you are again all frisky and excited at the very crack of dawn, and I'm not offended that you don't get my humor.

It's nice to see that the most recent spambot posting is (at least supposedly) about travel services. Maybe they're trying to deal with coronavirus? I haven't read the actual message--not sure if there's malware in there, so I don't know.
