1986 #26. I recognized this song when it started playing, but based on just the group name and song title, I could not remember what song this was. And yet it was #26 for the year I turned 16.

Probably heard this most from GirlTalk's remix with "Work It" that opens this track...

Remember mash ups? Stick around for Heart with Public Enemy.

I cannot separate this song in my head from the steamy Top Gun love scene. No no, not the one with the volleyball... that was Playing with the Boys by Kenny Loggins. No, I'm talking about the other love scene--the one with Kelly McGillis.

Morning is still awaited. Where are you, morning? Bathed the dog and was so exhausted by the effort that I fell asleep as soon as he laid down after, so now I'm up and wishing someone would appear with coffee and a poached egg.

An absolute favorite as a seven-year-old. And as much as it's no longer a staple of 80s stations and is probably in the process of a culture insensitivity check, it's like so catchy and fun otherwise. I have returned to The Bangles in the last few years and they are like, really really good. Just listen to their greatest hits, it's awesome.

What a weird experience. The name and artist meant nothing to me. I had no recollection of the #3 song of 1987 AT ALL. Then I played it and as the intro started, I thought, "Oh yeah. I remember this." But I know I haven't thought about it in well over 25 years.

And then I realized I knew all the lyrics and could sing along to it.

The brain is weird.

Chuck D, on when people said he wasn't Rock enough for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, said "we're the roll." That line echoes in my mind when I hear this. Not rock, too glossy, but undeniable it's lineage from the classic R&B records of the 50s I've been aurally imbibing. This is great Roll music.

3/4 women, you're doing great 1987!

They came out of the same Paisley Underground scene in LA. Kim said she was inspired by Susanna Hoffs, gonna call this a friendly ribbing. Or maybe they felt they sold out ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Oh, they opened for The Bangles in 2016! :-)

And, surprisingly, they were still playing "Egyptian" too

Ok, now going deep into Setlist.fm -- did you know The Bangles performed The Rutles' "Number One" twice in 1984?

Wow, I still loathe that song as much as ever!

Re: Pete information above, noted with pleasure and I accept it's a friendly Pandoras sendup of Bangles. As opposed to DESTRUCTION! But I enjoy it. The Bangles are like the fluffy, fancy version of the snarly, snarky Pandoras. That's my take anyway. Self-identification plays a role here, certainly. Also the inchoate rage I feel about the fact that "pedestals" for washers and dryers exist and cost STUPENDOUS amounts of money for what they are. Humans are terrible.
