Re: Life or Death Debate: Best Character in Hobbit or LoTR

Sam is a classical hero. He has very few, if any, internal conflicts. He's highly and usefully and firmly class aware. He's a great demonstration of who does the actual work of heroing (Gunga Din), because as a person he is exemplary. He's brave, self sacrificing, has remarkable stoicism, endurance ...

Re: The "Right to Sex"

The patriarchy is very old and established, and it's a core of the problem. Other successful species leave it to the female to choose who gets to pass on their genes. Some, like primates and other mammals, introduce violence that shifts that choice. I used to ask my students to read "Pricks and...

On my to do list? Grabbing Karzoug's dancing ranseur and getting it fit for Dwyn to use because I want the scene where the next runelord sees it, does a double take, and then while it dances and they parry, Dwyn pulls out her faithful hammer and mashes his/her sorry ass. Sam isn't a modern hero, but he's the best overall.

The best to read the voice for is Treebeard.

The best cameo and name go to The Witch King of Angmar.

So complex... No such thing as a right to sex. Organisms go their entire lives trying to pass on their genes, many never do. Organisms that have separated procreation and sex have similar patterns.
